Can I encode a different value on each tag?
Yes, you can encode each NFC tag in your order to contain unique data. This process is called unique encoding. For example you could have 100 tags, each with a different URL on them. This is simple to do; just add multiple rows to the encoding template, each with it's own unique value. Our encoding software will handle the rest!
Can I make the tags read-only?
Yes we can lock your tags so they are read-only, which means no one can re-write your tag. And this includes you! Locking a tag is a permanent action and cannot be undone.
Please note that Mifare 1k chips technically do not support being locked. However, we can simulate tag locking. Theoretically it would be possible to guess to the key and write the tag although it would be quite difficult. For all practical purposes it is locked.
Can you just format the tags as NDEF?
The tags we sell are blank tags as not everyone wants NDEF formatting. If you need NDEF formatted tags you have two options. Our encoding service will both format and encode the tag as NDEF. You can use this service to have the tags NDEF formatted for you; just supply a temporary url for the actual data and you can rewrite it later. The other option is to use NTAG chips; these ship from the factory formatted with NDEF.
How do I tell you what data I want encoded?
It's easy! You can download our Excel encoding template, fill in the data you want to be encoded and upload the file when you add your NFC tag to your cart.
How do you bulk encode tags?
If you've been around NFC long enough, at some point you have had to encode a bunch of tags with your NFC phone. We started out doing this too. Not fun right? We have since developed several custom robotics solutions and high-speed encoding software so that we can do this for you. Now it's easy for you.
What devices can read your encoded tags?
We encode tags according to the NFC and NDEF standards. Any device capable of reading NFC and NDEF standards should be able to read our tags. Ultimately it is up to you do to final testing.
What is the lead time for encoding?
Lead time for encoding is dependent on quantity. For self-service orders placed through our website lead time is typically 2 to 3 days. Larger quantity orders will require extra time. Contact us for more information.
What products can you encode?
We can encode all of our NFC tags.
What types of data can you encode on NFC tags?
We can encode the standard NDEF data types, plus a few extra-types built on top of NDEF. This is a list of actions:
- Website - opens a URL
- Email - sends an email
- Phone - calls a phone number
- SMS - sends an SMS to a phone number
- Text - opens a piece of text
- Smart Poster - opens a URL with a short piece of text
- Contact - opens and stores contact information in a mobile device's contacts
- Google Maps - opens an address to Google Maps
- Facebook - opens a browser to a specific Facebook page
- Google Search - opens a browser for a Google Search
- Twitter - opens up to the user's Twiiter page
Where can I download the encoding template?
The Excel encoding template is available on every NFC tag product. You can also download it here.
Will you validate the data to be encoded?
We have some simple checks in place to catch any mistakes in the encoding file. However we don't know enough about your project requirements to fully validate the correctness of the encoding file. Ultimately you are responsible for the contents of the encoding file.
